Death and honor are thought to be the same, but today I have learned that sometimes they are not.

Music festivals are renowned for having music, you can listen to that, you can watch people perform that, all in all you have a good idea of what you are getting.

This weekend a hardy group of foreigners dared to leave the boundaries of Cheonan and head out to the beach for the annual Boryeong Mud Festival. The official website gives this as an explanation as to what happens during the festival.

“In the Mud Experiential Land program, there are various programs and related events for visitors like a grand mud bathtub, mud wrestling contest, mud sliding, mud prison, human mannequin, character doll, mud balloons and etc. We provide many things to sightsee and enjoy for the visitors.”

It turns out that the whole thing is just a big party event, where you get muddy. I heard that it is good for the skin, and I heard that it is good for vitality. I found that it was good for just having a stupid laugh.

That night we descended on to the town, some beer and soju later and it all become a little messy. We hit the beach late at night and had a wee paddle, only to return to our clothes and find them……. Well not actually find them at all. A short nearly naked race through the town back to the hotel to get some clothes was in order. Hardly anyone seemed to notice us. We went back down and found our stuff and everything was hunky dory after that.

Sunday was quite a relaxed affair, sitting in the sun and playing a little football. Due to not being in the sun for about 4 years I neglected to take any sort of precautions and have ended up being about the same colour as a postbox, min it stings a bit.

A great weekend it was, there are some pictures on the picture board of the event. I couldn’t take many photos as my hands were covered in mud the whole time, but you can get the idea of what was going on from the few photos that are there.

It's Last of the Mohicans! Yes! Finally! Who, after much consideration and due deliberation, is, in fact, the daddy?
