A new year in Korea deserves to have a new look to the site. It’s amazing how many things change but how many things stay the same. I’ve started work in a new school and I have a new flat.

A bunch of the old crowd that lived here in Cheonan have moved on and left the country. Friendships here are very transient things; people change jobs and do different things after their year contract expires. So a new batch of people arrive and it’s interesting to see how these ‘newbies’ deal with the culture change. Some fall in love with the place instantly and have a great time blending with the Koreans and enjoying the change in lifestyle. Others don’t seem to do this so well. Those that fall into the latter category are ones who compare life here to their lives at home.

Living here, or indeed any country other than your own, will never be the same, but surely that’s the whole point isn’t it? I think I’ve managed to get so much out of my time here by just accepting the differences and even enjoying the difficulties that go with them.

So here’s to a new year and hopefully I’ll have some interesting stories to put here. The quotes game victory was shared by Messrs Porteous and McPherson last year congratulations to you both, a goody bag fill with junk is on its way to you now. I have changed the format a little for this year; the quotes can be from TV, film or song. I want the name of the artist/actor who sang/said it for a bonus point. Good luck to you all.
