Bright light. Bright light.
The reason for a holiday – Independence Day.
The place – Gangchon and beyond.
The participants – 12 foreigners with time on their hands.
Saturday morning, everything was set to go on a wee trip for the long weekend. I’ve found, in my experience, the best thing about a holiday is the fact that I don’t have to work. If you have any other suggestions as to why holidays are good things then let me know.
Getting on the bus to Chuncheon, then in the taxi to Gangchon, the plan was to have a bit of an energetic and adventurous weekend. The adventures were few, but cracking none the less. Saturday just saw us wandering around in Gangchon seeing the sites and having some food and all that jazz. Night time strolled around and the opportunity to take some quad bikes out on a dark winding on and off road track proved too much for me to knock back. I and another foolhardy traveler jumped on to these, altogether far too dangerous for words, machines and headed off into the night (photos on the board).
The next day had us hiring bicycles and cycling up to a beautiful waterfall. For those of you who have experienced the negative next day effects of alcohol, you should take this information and keep it with you. Sitting under a waterfall in the sun, the water batting off of your shoulders and head simply wash out all those “hangovery” feelings (pictures on the board).
After the waterfall we headed away to a small island in the middle of a lake, the islands name was something like Jeongdo I think. Upon getting there we got some food and as the lady folks went away on a wee bike ride the guys decided to get involved in a meaningless and heated competition.
The game was Chooko (some of you may remember me badly injuring my ankle while playing this with old men shortly after I arrived), it’s basically football volleyball, and the net is at the height of a tennis net. Needless to say the Owski team were the victors in no less than four games out of four. Then it was time to get on the ferry back to the mainland and somebody stupidly suggested Iteawon.
For those that remember my earlier experiences with Iteawon you will know that I am not a huge fan of the place (sleep groping). The night was a lot of fun though and didn’t finish until the wee hours of the morning. Some brutal and regrettable things took place, but all in all it was a good night out.
That’s all for now, but I’ll write more tomorrow about the Koreans and their attitudes towards the Japanese in general and, more specifically, on Independence Day.
Check out the new pictures on the photo board, some good and bad ones in there. It’s been noted that there have been a few quotes of late that have not been answered, come on guys, the precedent has been set that cheating is allowed………
Be good everyone.

Nice pics. I especially enjoyed the one with the stuff in the back and the thing. That was cool.
Just out of curiousity, who's taking your picture if you're all sitting in the waterfall? Is this a touristy waterfall where happy snappy people come by regularly? Or is there a more left-handed explanation?
I don't know this quote -- haven't you used it before? And I don't cheat when I'm allowed to -- where's the fun in that?
I just checked and I had used that quote before so it has now been changed, thanks Dave.
I think with your massive intellect you should be able to work out who was taking the photo and why they weren't in the picture (other than them being behind the camera)
On your point - The Koreans all seemed to find it very strange that these foreigners would get under (into) the waterfall, I think they thought they would melt or something if they got too close.
It was Gizmo? So he avoided water otherwise he would have spawned innumerable (or possibly five) evil siblings?
Either that or it was someone with boobs. Possibly a girl. Or me. No wait, I would know if it had been me. It must have been a girl.
Don't quiz me any more, I'm out of shape. I've got a cold and I'm trying to fake an indepth knowledge of statistics (which I don't have) with about four weeks notice. *Grimace*
