I always tell the truth. Even when I lie.
Claire's account of her first week in Korea, as written by Claire. Any characters or places mentioned in this report are entirely fictional and not based on any real people - living or dead.
Please forgive me if this account of my time in Cheonan is a trifle muddled, but I am currently suffering from a particularly vicious hangover. Ventured out for a night on the town with Alan and his teacher friends last night and overindulged in soju and beer.
Am having a top time otherwise. The Korean people are really friendly; at least I think they are. As it is impossible for me to communicate with all but a few, this opinion is largely based on Alan’s colleagues (two of whom have very generously taken us out to eat), and a man on the street in Seoul who very kindly donated an umbrella to Alan and I.
I am really enjoying the Korean food, which is surprising as I am rather pernickety at times. If anyone is planning a visit, be warned, you must learn to use chopsticks beforehand. I am improving a bit, but have spent most mealtimes up to now in a state of utter humiliation.
I haven’t done much actual sightseeing yet. I am planning a couple of day trips next week though, and Alan and I are off to Seoul this weekend I think. I must admit that I was too scared to go out on my own for more than twenty minutes on my first day, and have been building up from there. At the moment, even the most mundane stuff is totally fascinating for me. Alan and I went to the supermarket the other night and I just about died of excitement. I know that makes me sound like a total sad case, but it is true.
Anyway I must go and have lie down now, I am struggling to remain upright.
Cheery Bye.

Good to read that Claire's enjoying the land of the rising nuclear threat. I too become excited on a trip around the supermarket -- a man of my physique is built of enthusiasm not apathy.
I'm following the Papal election process closely, just in case there's a whole Robbie Coltrane accidental Pope incident and I, an atheist, am declare the new Holy Papa. No sign of that yet, Bob, but at the end of Day One of Pope Watch there's black smoke coming out of the chimney and we are still Popeless.
Yes indeedily do, it's officially official. Cardinal Ratzinger, formal a member of Hitler Youth, has been appointed Pope. He takes the name of Benedict XVI -- most probably to escape his creditors.
In a statement to the press Cardinal Francis Arinze of Nigeria, a potential Papal candidate said, "Is it coz I is black?"
Pope Benedict XVI has been invited to a guest voice spot on The Simpsons in a story line in which is is revealed that it was Maggie who shot John Paul II. It is believed he will decline due to a previous commitment to appear on Will & Grace.
This has been Pope Watch, I'm not Sir Trevor MacDonald. And neither are you!
