George Washington was in a cult, and the cult was into aliens, man.
Sunday out at the Independence Hall brought a new friend and some interesting insights into the Korean ways of thinking.
My usual guide on Sundays as you know is Younnie, a doctor from Cheonan that I met through a teacher I work with. She recently met a Korean girl who has lived most of her life in the Philippines and invited her along to our Sunday get togethers. Kay, for that is her name, is Korean but she does not speak much of the language, her English however is pretty much perfect. We met up outside Younnie's hospital and headed on to the Independence Hall.
There are some pictures up of the place so I won't go into what it all looked like, the grandeur of the place was astonishing though. What was just as amazing was the single one sidedness that was portrayed in every part of the museum. As is well known (to me now anyway) there is not much love between Japan and Korea. It turns out that the only country that did a single thing wrong in this conflict was Japan - damn them. All the while the Korean people were being described as valiant, heroic, amazing, super-human and god like (made a few of those up but you get the idea)
There was also information about how Korea since gaining their independence from their evil oppressors were involved in international talks on different matters over the years one quote stood out and I jotted it down:
"But it [Korea] had to confront the cold-heartedness of the international order, which gave priority to the interests of their own countries during diplomatic activities with world powers such as the Nationalist Government of China and America. Through this, we realised that the destiny of the people can only be decided by our own efforts and abilities and that there was no such thing as a permanent friend in the world of international politics"
'Holy crap' I thought to myself as I may have offended some people if I had mentioned how incredibly naive and egotistical that statement seemed.
The rest of the day was good, we went for dinner afterwards and had some big soup pot thing that you added meat to and it cooked inside the soup then you yummied it all down. This took some time as my chopstick skills were left a little wanting when it came to fishing things you cant see out of a boiling pot of soup. There was noodles and rice after too.
Then on to TFI Fridays for a drink, although Kay doesn't drink and Younnie was driving, I felt like I had to have a soft drink too. It turned out to be ace some sort of fresh fruit smoothie which I will surely have again.
Younnie went home and Kay and I got the bus, we parted company at E-Mart and I got the last of my Christmas shopping done, it's amazing how many presents I'm getting myself this year. I can't wait to see the joy on my face when I open them. The joy is truly in the giving and not in the receiving.

Dazed and Confused man.
Martha Washington now that's a hip hip lady!!
I better get a point, Chimpy.
Also just thought of a quote around the time of the last one
'I wanna DANCE'
2 points please.... woo hoo!!
Don't worry about Murdock. In six weeks he won't be able to tell reality from breadsticks.
Chimpy gets 2 points from that all out assault, I can only assume that he feels cheated by the pipping done by Mr P and has waited by his computer for a chance to redeem himself.
Also, Gregor has added an A-Team quote, probably because he fancies Dirk Benedict.
How come you get roll on deodorant and not rock on deodorant? I've found a gap in the market that could make me millions.
I think Korea should get over it. After all, in the last ten years they have well and truly given the economic shaft to Japan. What goes around, comes around. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Many hands make light work. Etc.
I'm doing my Xmas shopping this Thursday. Last year I bought everyone books. Since they didn't read them, this year I'm buying everyone the film version of the books I bought them.
I don't suppose you know where I can get a film version of the Atlas, do you?
DFP (Open To The Public Since 1997)
I have just noticed that your hit count is at 991. I was wondering if there was going to be any kind of celebrations/presents for reaching 1000 hits.
Perhaps free flights to come and visit you in Korea... just an idea.
love Chimp
I'd greatfully accept a free flight so I could hit you instead of your website.
DFP - Perhaps you could get them the Indiana Jones Trilogy and edit it so that you only see the bits where the plane is passing over an atlas. The colours won't match with the colours in the book, perhaps you could write on the TV screen as they watch it?
Failing that you could just get them 'Chris Eubank Reads The Atlas' It's coming out for Christmas and contains '67 scintillating minutes' of Chris reading aloud with a variety of costumes on. The tag line is 'His Voice Makes People Laugh'
Paul Ross gave it 46 thumbs up in the Sun the other day, and it's not like him to give good reviews to just anyone. There was a bad one a few years ago I think, but they sent him a free t-shirt and he wrote a retraction.
